  • COVID-19 Update:Practice resuming Face-To-Face appointments

We are writing to inform you of good news that our practice has recommenced face-to-face appointments from Monday 15th June. You may be aware that during the lockdown period and on the advice of the Chief Dental Officer England, all dental practices were instructed to cease all face-to-face appointments.

During this period, our practice was operating an emergency advice line, with antibiotics and analgesics where possible and/or referral to an Urgent Dental Care Centre in the case of an extreme emergency.

Prior to lockdown if you pre-booked a routine exam and/or a scaling with our hygienist for the month of June or July, please accept our sincere apologies as these appointments will have to be cancelled. We appreciate this is not ideal, but our practice needs to ensure it can accommodate those patients who are having ongoing dental and orthodontic problems relating to the lockdown period. We will also need to accommodate those patients who were undergoing treatment prior to the lockdown. We will aim to restore exam and hygienist appointments as soon as practicably possible and will prioritise those patients who have had their appointments cancelled.

When you do visit our practice, you will notice some changes including Perspex sneeze screens on the reception desk, wipeable chairs and the removal of magazines in the waiting room. Please be reassured that you will be guided by our dental team throughout your visit. Prior to attending our practice, you will also be provided with information on what to expect. This will include:

  • contacting you prior to your appointment to carry out a COVID-19 pre-screening check
  • being asked to attend on your own where possible
  • bring as few items as you need, however our receptionist will provide you with a plastic sealable box for you to place your coat and items in
  • arriving on time and not earlier as we need to limit the number of patients in our building
  • the use of hand sanitiser when you arrive
  • a pre-screening COVID-19 check on arrival
  • the provision of a face mask for you to wear if you need to take a seat in our waiting room
  • going to the toilet and brushing your teeth prior to your appointment as the toilet facilities will be closed other than in an emergency
  • maintaining social distancing and the need to keep reception area clear, therefore we will contact you by phone if further appointments are required
  • paying with card and not cash where possible

In line with guidance from Public Health England all dental practices, including Bank Cottage, will be operating enhanced cross infection procedures. This will initially increase the time surgeries are not operational and therefore reduce the number of appointments we can offer in a given day. We will aim to see you as soon as possible by running extra clinical sessions when possible. However, you may receive your routine dental care, including exam and hygiene appointments, later than usual for which we sincerely apologise.

As you may be aware there have been nationwide supply issues relating to Personal Protective Equipment (PPE). Though the PPE supply chain has been slow, our practice has been working hard to ensure that the correct PPE is in place for the protection of all our patients and staff. For certain dental procedures we will be wearing enhanced levels of PPE so we may look a little different to normal. However, please feel reassured it will still be us underneath.

Due to current national demand, the cost of PPE is exceedingly high. Not all dental procedures however will require enhanced PPE. For those procedures that do require enhanced PPE, a nominal fee will be applicable for Private Pay-As-You-Go (PAYG) patients to help cover the cost of this extra PPE.

As the PPE supply chain improves, then the cost of PPE should reduce and therefore the fee charged to PAYG patients will also reduce. As the alert level reduces then so should the necessity for our dental team to wear enhanced PPE, at which point the fee will be completely removed.

For patients who are members of our practice dental care plan, there will be no PPE charge and the annual fee will remain frozen for the period of June 2020-2021 to thank you for your ongoing support during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Once again, our dental team would like to take this opportunity to sincerely thank all our patients for your ongoing loyalty during the COVID-19 pandemic. As an independent dental practice, we would not exist without your support.

We look forward to seeing you all soon,

The Team at Bank Cottage Dental

Testimonials

As a person with a fear of dentists who had not visited one in 8 years I can honestly say Dentist Tim Lindop and Nurse Lisa made me feel at ease. They were friendly and professional and I cannot recommend them highly enough. Tim took the time to thoroughly explain to me what he was going to do before beginning which took a lot of my anxiety away. After explaining my concerns Tim was very patient and understanding and the injections I received were very gentle. Excellent dental practice with exceptional staff, I won't be going anywhere else in future.
